The park is named after Jatayu, a mythical bird from the Hindu epic Ramayana who is believed to have fought against Ravana to save Sita. The park is built on a sprawling area of around 65 acres and is home to various attractions such as the Jatayu sculpture, a 6D theatre, a cable car ride, and a virtual reality museum. 

The highlight of the park is a massive sculpture of Jatayu, which is said to be the largest bird sculpture in the world. The sculpture is 200 feet long, 150 feet wide, and 70 feet tall and is made of steel, concrete, and granite. The sculpture is designed in such a way that it appears as if Jatayu has been shot by an arrow and is lying on the ground with his wings spread wide. 

Visitors can also enjoy a cable car ride that takes them to the top of a hill where they can get a panoramic view of the park and the surrounding areas. The 6D theatre and virtual reality museum offer immersive experiences that showcase the legends and history of Jatayu.

St. Thomas Fort: The Fort is a historic site located in the town of Tangasseri in Kollam district. It is an ancient Portuguese fort built in the 16th century and is one of the oldest European forts in India. 

The fort was constructed by the Portuguese explorer, Afonso de Albuquerque in 1502. It was initially a small structure made of wood and later, it was fortified with stone. The fort was named after St. Thomas, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ, who is believed to have arrived in India in 52 AD. 

During the 17th century, the Dutch captured the fort from the Portuguese and made several modifications to it. The British later took control of the fort from the Dutch in 1795 and used it as a trading station.

The eco-tourism project in Thenmala was initiated in 2000 in collaboration with the Kerala government and the Department of Tourism, and it aims to promote sustainable tourism in the region while also preserving the natural environment. 

Some of the major attractions in Thenmala include the Palaruvi Waterfalls, the Shenduruney Wildlife Sanctuary, the Thenmala Dam, and the Deer Rehabilitation Center. The town also houses an eco-park which has a butterfly garden, a musical fountain, and a tree-top hut, among other things.
