The event is named after the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. During the boat race, teams of rowers compete in traditional snake boats, which are long and narrow boats that can hold up to 100 rowers. The race takes place on Punnamada Lake, and thousands of people come to watch the spectacle. 

Mullakkal Chirappu: This is a 10-day festival that takes place at the Mullakkal Temple in Alappuzha. The festival is dedicated to the goddess Bhagavathy, and it usually falls in the months of November or December. 

Chettikulangara Bharani: This is another important festival in Alappuzha, which takes place at the Chettikulangara Devi Temple. The festival is held in the month of February or March, and it is a celebration of the goddess Bhagavathy.
